IRONJIN
A strength-training app where effort is the currency — not the
weight on the bar, not how you look, and never how often you push through pain.
Try it now
Runs in this browser. No install, no account needed to look around.
What you actually do
Every day the app prepares one session for you and
keeps it hidden until you ask for it — you reveal it when you get
to the gym, not the night before. It knows what equipment you have, what you are
working around, and what you did last time.
You log sets as you do them. Reps, load, how hard it felt. Nothing is scored without
the work that produced it being stored first, so a number can always be traced back
to a set you actually did.
Effort, not load
Two people can earn the same from the same honest session on very different weights.
What counts is turning up and doing the work in front of you. That is a
deliberate design constraint, not a marketing line — the scoring engine has no term
for how much you lifted relative to anybody else.
Rest is free
There is no daily streak and nothing to lose by taking a day off.
You set your own weekly cadence and a rest day costs you nothing. Missing a week
means you were not rewarded that week — it never means you were punished.
The rule underneath all of this: the interface may make a fuss about
turning up and about knowing when to stop. It is not allowed to
make a fuss about magnitude. No app should be able to talk you into one more set on
a day your body is telling you otherwise.
People, if you want them
-
A Dojo — up to twelve people you choose. There is no directory
and no search: you get in because somebody sent you a link.
-
Keiko — a group of four at a similar level, put together fresh
each week. You do not pick it and it is not permanent.
-
Territory — real gyms, added by the people who train at them. You
defend ground by turning up and you take it by spending what you have earned.
Your own week always pays, whatever anybody else does. No group goal has a threshold
below which your effort was worthless.
What it does not do
- No before-and-after photos, no body-shape framing, no weigh-ins.
- No streak to protect, and no reward for training while ill or injured.
- No loot boxes, and nothing random you can buy.
- No background location. Checking in is something you press, at the gym.
- No stranger chat.
Where it is up to
Honestly: unfinished, and worth a look. The browser version above is the same app
that runs on a phone — the same code, not a demo — so most of it works exactly as it
will. Maps and push notifications are the parts that need a real phone build, and
they are not there yet.
There is also an Android test build — not the Play
Store version, and not finished either.
IRONJIN is not a medical service and gives no medical advice. If something hurts,
stop, and talk to someone qualified.
